BURN-OFF OVEN

Operating system

  • Burn-off oven has two direct-fired gas burners; main burner heats up the oven load destroying paint film, a high-temperature burner incinerates fume released by paint destruction. Burner has high/low air gas control to maintain thermal cycle and minimise oxygen levels.
  • HT burner fires into a combustion chamber raising air temperature to 850°C for 0.6 seconds dwell time for complete oxidisation of the fume.

Operation
  • As a programme is selected and the control switched on, HT burner automatically progresses through purge, ignition and start-up sequence before firing into a stainless steel combustion chamber; runs continuously throughout the burn off cycle.
  • After HT burner fires the oven burner goes into start-up sequence and fires into a stainless steel oven distribution duct.
  • Oven burner is designed for high/low operation, controlled by programmer monitoring the temperature of the oven compartment, switching the oven burner high/low to maintain temperature around set-point.
  • Fumes emitted from the paint as temperature rises are oxidised in the combustion chamber before passing out to atmosphere.
  • Temperature variation in combustion chamber signals excessive fuming and releases a small amount of water through the oven nozzles, immediately flashing into steam and slowing down fume emission. A counter monitors water releases during burn-off cycle, indicating over-load conditions; this enables the operator to determine correct oven loading.

Effectiveness

Pengrave-Remal ovens successfully remove hydrocarbon based wet or powder paints. After completing burn-off a fine powder oxide residue remains on the metal that can be brushed off by hand, or by a high pressure wash.
